On September 15th, TU held a vollleyball match against Glenville State. We decided to have two games take place during the match and held them at the end of the first two sets. Our first game involved two 4 player teams that had to lay on the ground and pass the ball back to one another without using their hands. After selecting the teams from the crowd, we explained to them the rules and the two teams competed for wristbands and T-shirts. The second game we held involved two teams of two. One player on each team held a hula hoop and the other player had to set a volleyball through the hoop. We selected the teams and explained to them the rules just like before. I took photos of the games going on for our social media sites. The team with the most points at the end of the game would win a T-shirt and wristband. After both games had ended, we took the winners photos and uploaded them to social media.
On Thursday, September 3rd, Tiffin University's football team played a home game against Walsh University. This was the season opener for both schools as well as a GLIAC conference game. I designed a schedule of upcoming TU athletic events for the PA announcer to tell the crowd during the game. We met at the athletic offices to load up merchandise for our booth at 5:00PM (approximately two hours before the game). After we loaded the shirts, sweaters, and hats into the van we drove to the stadium to set up. The photo booth supplies were already at the stadium when we got there so me and my colleague Carey set up the Tiffin Dragons back drop with the GLIAC logo. There were props like TU football helmets and jerseys for people to wear while they took their picture with the dragon mascot and cheerleaders. I worked in the merchandise booth until the end of halftime when the tent was closed down, our credit card app on the iPad crashed so we could only take cash and checks. This didn't seem to hurt sales because our merchandise booth was busy for most of the evening. While the game was going on, I tweeted score updates for GoTiffinDragons on Facebook and Twitter. This was my first experience with live score updates but I felt very comfortable due to the fact that I follow many sports teams and their live updates on my personal Twitter. After the game was finished we loaded up the merchandise and left the stadium. I had a lot of fun with my first game day operations experience! Our next meeting for planning is Thursday, September 10th ath 3:00pm.Tuesday September 1st was my first day working with Lauren Caminiti and my two other colleagues on game day promotions and marketing. We met for a half an hour discussing what activities we could do during our first home football game later on that week. Tiffin University will be taking on Walsh University on Thursday, September 3rd at Frost Kanlow Stadium in Tiffin, Ohio. We decided that we could do two on-field promotions to get the fans involved for our first game. After the end of the 1st quarter, there will be a race with two young fans against TU's Dragon mascot Stuey. No matter who wins, each contestant will be given a prize. At the end of the 3rd quarter, two older fans will compete for a pass thrown by our Dragon mascot. The first contestant to drop the pass will lose and there will only be one prize given out during this contest. There will also be a photo booth during the pregame festivities where fans can have their picture taken with Stuey and TU cheerleaders. There will also be a merchandise stand at the game that will be maintained by myself and my colleagues. We will meet with our supervisor Lauren on game day to set up the merchandise stand and photo booth.
