I worked over seven hours at the concessions stand during TU's home track meet. I was in charge of preparing hot dogs for customers using a big crock pot to cook them using the boiling method. It was a rather large meet and I was busy cooking hot dogs all day. The concessions area had electrical problems throughout the day and this caused the cooking process to get off to a slow start. Certain outlets wouldn't work for periods of time and the cooking operations had to be moved to a different area. Once the pot got hot enough for the first batch of hot dogs it was good to go for the rest of the day. We ended up selling over $1000 in concessions sales at the track meet.
I worked a full game day at FirstEnergy Stadium's pro shop for Monday Night Football game against the Baltimore Ravens. After a brief overview of my duties and responsibilities, I went out on the sales floor and assisted customers with anything they needed. The peak hours of operation were right before the game and during halftime. That is when the store had its most busy times. I was informed that over 75% of all merchandise sales takes place in the pro shop at the stadium. I value that experience in Cleveland because it gave me more confidence to take part in other sales related positions.
Tiffin University hosted a double header as apart of their basketball tournament. I took tickets at the door for both games and kept track of all the people who entered the gymnasium. It was my duty to make sure that everyone who entered the gym was either apart of the game day crew or had a valid ticket. We did not do any promotions or have the merchandise stand available because of Thanksgiving break.
At Tiffin University's first home basketball game, our team had a number of events setup. Our merchandise stand that operated at our home football games was moved indoors and we had several promotions. At our first media timeout we chose two fans from the stands to compete in a layup competition. Each player started at halfcourt and ran to opposite baskets. The first person to make a basket in both hoops won the challenge. Our halftime gauntlet for the $500 bookstore giftcard was held for the first time. The contestant only made it to the 3 pointer but couldn't go any further. Our merchandise stand did not make very many transactions when compared to football games, I believe this is because the game was held so close to Thanksgiving break, thus driving attendance down. My next working assignment was held on November 28th.
